Washington D.C., Oct. 6, 2016 — The Securities and Exchange Commission today announced that it has named David H. Saltiel to head the Office of Analytics and Research in the Division of Trading and Markets.  He joined the SEC in September.

"We are very fortunate to have David's expertise at the Commission," said Stephen Luparello, Director of the Division of Trading and Markets.  "His knowledge and experience across the breadth of our areas of responsibility, especially in the fixed income markets, will allow us to make significant progress on our very ambitious agenda."

The Office of Analytics and Research provides expertise in quantitative data analysis, trading, portfolio management, and risk management, and examines topics such as market structure, new products, and rule filings by exchanges.

"I am honored to take on this new role as Associate Director of the Office of Analytics and Research," said Mr. Saltiel.  "The work of the office is critical to understanding the most important questions facing capital markets today.  I look forward to contributing to this work and to the mission of the Commission."

Before coming to the SEC, Mr. Saltiel was Chief Economist at the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board, a role he assumed in September 2014.  Prior to that, he was Chief Financial Economist and Director of Data Management and Analytics at the U.S. Treasury Department's Bureau of the Fiscal Service, where he also served as Acting Deputy Assistant Commissioner for Debt Management.

Mr. Saltiel received his undergraduate degree from Williams College and holds a master's degree in economics from St. Antony's College at the University of Oxford.  He began his career as a deputy director at the Atlantic Council of the United States and later worked at Sandia National Laboratories, the U.S. Department of Energy, and at AREVA Inc., where he was manager of federal affairs and analysis and later director of North American strategy and economic analysis.
