Norwalk, CT—June 2, 2016—The Financial Accounting Foundation (FAF) today announced that it has named John W. Auchincloss as vice president, general counsel; and Matthew J. Broder as vice president, public affairs.

In his role, Mr. Auchincloss will have overall responsibility for the FAF’s legal and compliance functions and will provide strategic legal advice and guidance to the FAF, the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), and the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).

In Mr. Broder’s role, he will have overall responsibility for FAF, FASB, and GASB communications, external relations, and government affairs activities—including executive, internal, social, and web-based communications.

“We are very pleased to welcome John and Matt to the FAF team,” said FAF President and CEO Teresa S. Polley. “John’s strategic counsel will be valuable to our organization in supporting the work of the FASB and GASB in establishing financial accounting and reporting standards.”

“Matt’s diverse background in communications and media gives him a unique perspective—which will help the FAF, FASB, and GASB as we continue to improve the way we communicate with wide variety of stakeholders on the Boards’ activities,” added Ms. Polley.

Mr. Auchincloss, who joined the FAF in May, has deep experience with nonprofit governance, tax, and regulatory issues. Most recently, he served as general counsel and secretary for Commonfund, a private, nonprofit asset management firm.

Previously, Mr. Auchincloss served as an assistant U.S. attorney in the Southern District of New York. He began his career at Davis Polk & Wardwell in Washington, D.C. and New York City. Mr. Auchincloss received a bachelor’s degree in history from Yale University, a J.D. degree from the University of Virginia School of Law, and an LL.M. degree from Cambridge University.

Mr. Broder brings extensive communications experience to the FAF. He comes to the FAF from Daymon Worldwide, where he served as vice president, Corporate Communications and was responsible for all internal, external, and digital communications for the private-branding firm’s U.S. operations.

Previously, Mr. Broder served as vice president, External Communications, at Pitney Bowes, and as a communications executive at United Technologies. He began his career in journalism and served as a speechwriter to former Gov. William O’Neill of Connecticut. He holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Yale University and a master’s degree in business administration from the Yale School of Management.
