NOTICE OF MEETINGS

OPEN BOARD MEETING
(Board meetings are available by audio webcast and telephone.)

Wednesday, January 11, 2006, 9:00 a.m.

  1. Uncertain tax positions (estimated 2-hour discussion). The Board will redeliberate certain issues of the FASB proposed Interpretation, Accounting for Uncertain Tax Positions. Specifically, the Board will discuss subsequent recognition and measurement, change in judgment, disclosure provisions, recognition, measurement and classification of interest and penalties, classification, transition, and effective date for the final Interpretation.

  2. EITF Issue 04-6 (estimated 15-minute discussion). The Board will consider a proposed editorial change to EITF Issue No. 04-6, "Accounting for Stripping Costs Incurred during Production in the Mining Industry," in EITF Abstracts, to clarify the definition of the production phase of a mine.

  3. Liability classification (estimated 30-minute discussion). The Board will discuss whether to add a project to its agenda that will consider the classification of an option or similar instrument issued as part of a share-based payment arrangement that includes a change in control provision.

  4. Open discussion. If necessary, the Board will allow time to discuss minor issues with staff members on technical projects or administrative matters. Those discussions are held following regular Board meetings as topics come up.

OPEN EDUCATION SESSION

Wednesday, January 11, 2006, following the Board meeting

The Board will hold an educational, non-decision-making session to discuss topics that are anticipated to be discussed at the January 18, 2006 Board meeting. Those topics will be posted to the FASB calendar four days prior to the education sessions.
