SEC Creates Financial Reporting and Accounting Unit Related to Enforcement

The SEC has announced the establishment of a new financial reporting and accounting unit within its Division of Enforcement, to be led by Timothy Zimmerman, who has worked at the division as a senior adviser since May 2026. The new unit will “provide the dedicated expertise, focus, and capacity to pursue accounting and financial reporting fraud cases as well as general misconduct in the accounting and auditing areas,” working closely with “staff across all relevant SEC divisions and offices to ensure its approach to enforcing federal securities laws is consistent with the Commission’s policy goals.”
