Late last week, President Obama nominated Michael Piwowar and Kara Stein to serve as SEC commissioners. I want to congratulate Mike and Kara on their nominations. Because the SEC is currently addressing many significant issues — such as finalizing its Dodd-Frank rulemakings and implementing the JOBS Act — it is quite an important time to join the agency.
For me, serving in government has been a fascinating and rewarding experience, having previously spent time in the private sector as an attorney and in academia as a professor. I am truly honored to have worked on behalf of the SEC´s mission, particularly during the financial crisis and its aftermath.
Although I´m leaving the Commission, I intend to remain involved in the financial and corporate governance issues of the day, and I look forward to new opportunities to make a positive impact for investors, companies, and our markets.
I plan to stay on the Commission until Mike, who will succeed me, takes office.
