IASB saddened by the death of Tony Cope

 11 November 2013

It is with great sadness that we learned over the weekend of the passing away of Tony Cope. Tony served as a member of the IASB from 2001 until 2007, and beforehand was a member of the US Financial Accounting Standards Board between 1993 and 2001. Tony played a leading role in the Strategy Working Party that led to the creation of the IASB in 2001. Before serving as an accounting standard-setter, Tony spent most of his career in the United States as a senior executive in the investment industry, although he was born and educated in the United Kingdom.

Ian Mackintosh, Vice-Chairman of the IASB noted, "Tony was one of the founding members of the IASB and made a huge contribution to the quality of financial reporting worldwide. More than that, he was a lovely guy and he will be missed deeply by his many friends and colleagues in the standard-setting community. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time."
