The Trustees of the IFRS Foundation, responsible for the governance and oversight of the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB), announced today the appointment of Joanna Perry as Chairman of the IFRS Advisory Council.
The IFRS Advisory Council is the formal advisory body to the Trustees and the IASB. Meetings with the IFRS Advisory Council are held three times a year.
Joanna Perry previously served as Chairman of the New Zealand Financial Reporting Standards Board (FRSB) for eight years until June 2011, leading the evolution of financial reporting standards in New Zealand, including the adoption of IFRS from 2005. As Chairman of the FRSB, during this time she also served as a Member of the Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB).
She also represented New Zealand as a member of the Asia-Oceania Standard-Setting Group (AOSSG). She currently serves as a member of the IFRS Interpretations Committee, a position she will resign upon taking up the Chair of the Advisory Council.
Ms Perry served as a member of the New Zealand Securities Commission for 11 years from 1997 until 2008, gaining significant knowledge and experience in the regulation and oversight of securities markets both in New Zealand and internationally. Her involvement with the Commission provided her with a deep understanding of the need for high quality global financial standards across the world´s capital markets.
Ms Perry qualified as a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of New Zealand.
Ms Perry also holds various senior, non-executive positions for a range of public and private organisations in New Zealand and Australia.
