The Trustees of the IFRS Foundation, responsible for the governance and oversight of the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB), today announced that the Monitoring Board has approved the appointment of Mr. Jin Liqun as a Trustee of the IFRS Foundation. Mr. Jin’s appointment will begin on 01 July 2014 and will expire on 31 December 2016, renewable once for a further three year term.
Mr. Jin Liqun is Chairman of China International Capital Corporation Limited and a member of the foreign policy advisory committee of the Chinese Foreign Ministry. He also serves as Honorary Chairman of the International Forum of Sovereign Wealth Funds.
Mr. Jin was Chairman of the Supervisory Board of China Investment Corporation & Central Huijing Investment Corporation from 2008 to 20l3. From August 2003 to July 2008, he was the Vice-President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in charge of operations for South, Central and West Asia, as well as private sector operations. He was also involved in the formulation of ADB's medium and long-term strategy and many policies governing its operations for economic and social development, particularly poverty reduction and environmental protection.
Commenting on the appointment, Robert Glauber, Chairman of the Trustees’ Nominating Committee, said:
