Nick Anderson and Ann Tarca join the International Accounting Standards Board

The Trustees of the IFRS Foundation, responsible for the governance and oversight of the International Accounting Standards Board (Board), have today announced the appointments of investor Nick Anderson and academic Ann Tarca as Board members.

Mr Anderson has 30 years of practical experience, mainly as a buy-side investor using and supporting the development of high-quality financial reporting. He joins from Janus Henderson Investors in the UK, where he served as Global Equity Portfolio Manager and Head of Equity Research. He was responsible for overseeing the sharing of research and best practice across Janus Henderson’s equity teams and served as the firm’s contact for the Board’s Investors in Financial Reporting programme.

Mr Anderson was a member of the UK Accounting Standards Board from 2007 to 2013 and a founding member of the Corporate Reporting Users’ Forum (CRUF).

Professor Tarca joins the Board from the University of Western Australia’s Business School, where she has been an accounting teacher and researcher since 1996 and a Professor since 2011. She qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1985 and has a PhD in Accounting from the University of Western Australia.

Professor Tarca served as a member of the Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) from 2014 to 2017 and was Research Director for the AASB from February 2017. She was an academic fellow of the IFRS Foundation from 2011 to 2012. She has authored a text book on accounting and written a wide range of research papers related to IFRS Standards, for which she has received many awards. Professor Tarca is an active member of the international accounting academic community, having served on several boards and committees.

Sheila Fraser, Chair of the Trustees’ nominating committee, said:

With the appointments of Nick and Ann, the Board is now at its full capacity with 14 members. I am confident that our two new members will be valuable additions to the Board.

Hans Hoogervorst, Chairman of the Board, said:

I look forward to welcoming Nick and Ann to the Board. Their diverse backgrounds will provide insightful and useful perspectives to the Board’s discussions.

Commenting on his appointment, Nick Anderson said:

As a user of financial statements across many jurisdictions, I understand their importance to analysts, portfolio managers and other stakeholders. I am honoured to join the Board and look forward to contributing to the Board’s discussions using my investor experience.

Ann Tarca commented:

I am excited and honoured to be appointed as a member of the Board and look forward to working with my fellow Board members, staff and stakeholders to help deliver on the IFRS Foundation’s mission and strategic objectives.

Mr Anderson’s and Professor Tarca’s appointments are for an initial five-year term, effective September and July 2017 respectively.

The composition of the Board ensures a mix of both professional and geographical backgrounds. Mr Anderson will fill one of the Board’s European seats while Professor Tarca will become one of the members from the Asia-Oceania region.
