SEC Releases Statement on EDGAR Hacking Enforcement Action

In a recent statement, SEC Chairman Jay Clayton announced that charges have been brought against nine defendants for their participation in a fraudulent scheme centered on an intrusion into the SEC’s Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval (EDGAR) system in 2016. He noted that the SEC is continuously looking to bolster its cybersecurity defenses to reduce the risk of attacks on EDGAR to gather nonpublic information.
