FASB Discusses Projects on Accounting for Software Costs and Distinguishing Liabilities From Equity

At its April 13, 2022, meeting, the FASB discussed its projects on the following topics:
- Accounting for and disclosure of intangibles — software costs — The Board discussed stakeholder feedback it received on software costs in response to its June 2021 invitation to comment Agenda Consultation (the “2021 ITC”). The Board made no technical decisions and directed its staff to continue performing preagenda research.
- Phase 2 of project on distinguishing liabilities from equity — The Board discussed the feedback it received on its guidance on liabilities and equity in response to the 2021 ITC and decided to remove the Phase 2 project from its technical agenda.
