FASB Staff Releases 2026 Taxonomies

The FASB staff has released the following GAAP taxonomies for 2026:
- GAAP Financial Reporting Taxonomy — Updates made to reflect FASB standards released during 2025 (before December 1, 2025).
- SEC Reporting Taxonomy — Contains “elements to meet [SEC] requirements for financial schedules required by the SEC, condensed consolidating financial information for guarantors, and disclosures about oil and gas producing activities.”
- Employee Benefit Plan Taxonomy — Identifies elements related to employee benefit plans.
- DQC Rules Taxonomy — An “XBRL representation of select XBRL US Data Quality Committee’s (DQC) validation rules that is now included with the annual GAAP Financial Reporting Taxonomy (GRT) release.”
- GAAP Meta Model Relationships Taxonomy — Provides relationships that “assist preparers in identifying the proper elements for tagging their filings, assist data users in the consumption of data with additional relationship information, and assist in writing business rules that leverage the additional relationship information to help with the proper element selection and identification.”
The 2026 FASB taxonomies are subject to SEC approval, which is expected in early 2026.
