SEC’s Crypto Assets Task Force Hosts Roundtable on Tokenization
May 13, 2025
The SEC’s Crypto Task Force has held a roundtable on tokenization, which is the fourth roundtable in its
series addressing the regulation of crypto assets. A key focus of this roundtable was
the use of asset tokenization as part of the convergence of TradFi (i.e., traditional
finance, such as banks) with DeFi (i.e., decentralized finance on blockchain
technology). Tokenization can be defined as the process of converting, through symbolic
representation or encoded rule sets and attestations, something of value into a digital
token that can be transacted on a blockchain.
For more information, see the roundtable speeches by SEC Chairman Paul Atkins as well as SEC Commissioners
Hester Peirce, Caroline Crenshaw, and Mark Uyeda.
