SEC Chairman Gives Speech at OECD’s Inaugural Global Financial Markets Roundtable

The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) held its inaugural
roundtable on global financial markets on September 10, 2025, as part of its
Financial
Markets Week 2025. One of the speakers at the roundtable was SEC
Chairman Paul Atkins. In his speech, Mr. Atkins stressed the importance of working together
“to encourage global competition in the financial markets and to promote economic
growth.” Specific topics he addressed include:
- The SEC’s “special accommodations for foreign companies that access the U.S. capital markets.”
- The importance of the IASB’s developing high-quality accounting standards.
- Financial materiality.
- Harnessing the power of digital assets.
- U.S. organizations’ collaboration with their “international counterparts.”
- AI as a catalyst for market innovation.
