FASB Posts Highlights of PMAC’s May 14 Meeting

The FASB’s Public Markets Advisory Committee (PMAC) held a meeting on May 14, 2026.
Topics addressed at the meeting included:
- Challenges and complexities associated with the FASB’s current indexation guidance related to debt and equity in ASC 815-40.
- The FASB’s project on classifying certain digital assets (e.g., stablecoins) as cash equivalents, including potential enhancements to disclosures in this area.
- The FASB’s project on clarifying the derecognition guidance related to crypto asset transfers.
- Challenges in practice with the FASB’s current consolidation guidance, especially the variable interest entity model.
- Potential improvements to the hedge accounting model, including aligning “hedge accounting with companies’ risk management practices.”
- Targeted improvements to the guidance on the equity method of accounting.
- The use of technology in standard setting, including the greater use of AI in accounting processes.
