SEC Amends Settlement Cycle for Transactions Related to Broker-Dealer Securities
February 15 , 2023
The SEC has issued a final
rule that shortens — from two business days to one — “the
standard settlement cycle for most broker-dealer transactions in securities.” The
purpose of the final rule is to “benefit investors and reduce the credit, market,
and liquidity risks in securities transactions faced by market participants.”
The final rule will become effective 60 days after the date of its publication in the
Federal Register. For more information, see the press
release and fact
sheet on the SEC’s Web site.
