SEC’s Crypto Task Force Hosts Roundtable on Decentralized Finance
June 11, 2025
On June 9, 2025, the SEC’s Crypto Task Force held a roundtable on decentralized finance (DeFi), which is the fifth
and last roundtable in the task force’s “Spring Sprint Toward Crypto Clarity” series
addressing the regulation of crypto assets. In his opening remarks, SEC Chairman Paul Atkins commented on the
roundtable’s title, “Defi and the American Spirit,” which he argued was “apt”
because it emphasized “the American values of economic liberty, private property
rights, and innovation.” Mr. Atkins further stressed the importance of blockchain
technology to the DeFi movement. For example, he indicated that blockchains “are a
very creative and potentially revolutionary innovation that have us rethinking
evidence of ownership and transfer of intellectual and economic property rights.”
