SEC Chairman Solicits Candidates for Open PCAOB Seat

SEC Chairman Paul Atkins has released a statement in which he requests applications for a
vacancy on the PCAOB. Mr. Atkins points out that, in accordance with the
Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, applicants should be “prominent individuals of integrity
and reputation who have a demonstrated commitment to the interests of investors and
the public, and an understanding of the responsibilities for and nature of the
financial disclosures required of issuers under the securities laws and the
obligations of accountants with respect to the preparation and issuance of audit
reports with respect to such disclosures.” He further notes that only those who have
never served as a certified public accountant are eligible for this position.
Candidates should submit a résumé, as well as a cover letter
discussing their qualifications, to boardrecommendations@sec.gov by September 8, 2026. The new
Board member will serve for a five-year term ending on October 24, 2031.
