California Air Resources Board Announces Proposed Deferral of 2026 Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reporting Deadline
June 25, 2026
On June 24, 2026, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) announced that it is
updating its February 26, 2026, approved regulatory proposal related to the Climate
Corporate Data Accountability Act (SB 253) and the Climate-Related Financial
Risk Act (SB 261). The updates will defer the
first-year reporting deadline for Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions under
SB 253 from August 10, 2026, to November 10, 2026 (i.e., a three-month
deferral).
In its announcement, CARB indicated that the proposed updates will also include
making “limited changes to the regulation to clarify certain requirements.” CARB
noted that it will release these changes for public comment for a 15-day comment
period but did not say when it will do so.
