SEC and Other Federal Agencies Release Joint Data Standards
June 8, 2026
The SEC and eight other federal agencies1 have jointly released a final
rule that is “designed to promote interoperability of financial
regulatory data across the agencies by establishing common identifiers for entities,
geographic locations, dates, and certain products and currencies.” The final rule is
being issued in response to a mandate of the Financial Data Transparency Act of
2022.
Further, the final rule includes “a principles-based joint standard with respect to
data transmission and schema and taxonomy formats, which would allow financial
institutions to submit high-quality, machine-readable data to the agencies.”
The final rule will become effective on October 1, 2026. For more information, see
the press release and fact
sheet on the SEC’s Web site.
